Why a one-second delay is costing you customers

EICR Team·14 May 2026·5 min read

Site speed isn't a vanity metric. We break down how performance affects conversions, SEO and trust — and what actually moves the needle.

Speed is the first thing a visitor experiences about your brand — before your design, your copy or your offer. If a page takes too long, many people simply leave, and you never get the chance to make an impression.

Google has been clear that performance and Core Web Vitals influence search rankings. A slow site is harder to find and harder to use, which compounds the problem: less traffic, and less of that traffic converting.

The good news is that speed is an engineering outcome, not luck. Optimised images, code splitting, caching, a good CDN and a modern framework like Next.js routinely get sites to 95+ on PageSpeed for desktop and 90+ on mobile.

We treat performance as a requirement, not an afterthought. Every build is measured against real metrics before launch — because a beautiful site that loads slowly still loses customers.
